90′ + 2′ Messi charges down the right wing and latches onto a well-placed cross-field pass. A rare piece of poor play from the Argentine sends the ball out for a throw-in, but with a three-goal lead safely under their belts, his fellow team-mates won’t mind too much!
90′ The fourth official has indicated that there will be two minutes of added time.
89′ Rudiger hits the crossbar! A lovely cross from Fabregas sails right onto the head of Rudiger in the middle of the hosts’ box. He rises high and beats Ter Stegen with his effort on goal, but it smashes the woodwork instead of finding the back of the net.
88′ Zappacosta does well to out-muscle Alba on the edge of the Barcelona penalty area before spinning and shooting. His curling effort is a decent one, but Ter Stegen is easily able to stop it with a comfortable diving save.
86′ Gomes loses out to Fabregas on the edge of the Chelsea box and the visitors quickly counter-attack. Alonso does well to get the better of Vidal before winning his side a corner out wide, but Barcelona have plenty of bodies back to deal with the danger.
84′ Brilliant stop by Courtois! Vidal picks up possession out wide and quickly sends a cross over to the far post, where Azpilicueta is forced into nodding the ball behind for a corner. Rakitic takes his time with the set-piece and eventually whips a cross over to Paulinho, who forces Courtois into making a great diving save.
E. Hazard
82′ Pedro receives a standing ovation from the home fans as he comes on to replace Hazard for the visitors.
81′ Messi picks up the ball in a promising position once again and tries to find a way into the Chelsea penalty area, but Kante is there once again to stop the Argentine from penetrating the box.
79′ Vidal cuts inside from out wide and is bundled over by Alonso, leaving the referee with no choice but to award Barcelona a free-kick. Messi steps up and shoots, and his powerful effort is tipped behind for a corner by Courtois.
77′ Hazard embarks on a clever run over on the right flank, where he sprints into the penalty area and cuts a pass across the face of goal. It’s a good one but there’s nobody there to meet it, leaving the Belgian visibly frustrated.
Marcos Alonso
Yellow Card
75′ Alonso tries to latch onto a bouncing ball just outside of the hosts’ box but ends up catching Paulinho with a high boot, resulting in the referee showing him a yellow card.
73′ Barcelona patiently knock the ball around deep inside the Chelsea half of the pitch before Messi tries to find a way into the box. He’s unable to do so, though, as Kante is there to dispossess the Argentine with firm but fair tackle.
71′ Messi lifts a pass down the left flank and into the path of Alba, who quickly puts Zappacosta under pressure near to the corner flag but can’t quite find a way past the Chelsea wing-back.
69′ Hazard cuts inside from the left wing and sends a long ball over to the opposite flank. His pass is slightly overhit, though, and it allows Alba to win the ball back for Barcelona ahead of Azpilicueta.
Aleix Vidal
O. Dembélé
67′ Meanwhile, Barcelona have taken off Dembele and replaced the youngster with Vidal in their third and final switch.
Álvaro Morata
O. Giroud
67′ And the second is Morata, with Giroud making way.
D. Zappacosta
V. Moses
67′ Chelsea have decided to make a double substition as they try to find a way back into the game. The first player to come on is Zappacosta, who replaces Moses.
65′ Chelsea struggle to break out of their own half of the pitch, forcing Courtois into going long as he tries to pick out Giroud. He manages to do so, but the Frenchman comes back from an offside position and the linesman’s flag is quickly raised.
L. Suárez
63′ That was good play by Suarez once again to set up Messi, who then managed to get the better of three Chelsea players with a wonderful run. That goal has surely sealed the win for his side?
L. Messi
63′ GOAL! It’s another for Messi! Suarez is left in a pocket of space and quickly sprints towards the Chelsea box, where he knocks the ball over to Messi. The Argentine charges into the penalty area and shoots, and his low strike easily flies through the legs of Courtois on its way into the back of the net.
62′ More good play by Chelsea sets up Alonso to get a shot away from inside the penalty area, but this time it’s Pique who throws his body in front of the wing-back’s strike and stops it from testing Ter Stegen.
André Gomes
Sergio Busquets
61′ Busquets seems to have picked up a slight injury, and he gingerly makes his way off the pitch to be replaced by Gomes.
60′ Hazard twists and turns over on the left-hand side of the Barcelona box as Chelsea push forward once again. The Belgian does well to break into the penalty area and shoot from a tight angle, but his strike fails to trouble Ter Stegen at the near post.
59′ Giroud picks up the ball in a promising position and quickly fires a lofted pass over to Moses. The wing-back cuts towards the box and fires a cross back towards Giroud, but it’s poorly hit and easily cut out by Alba.
57′ Messi gets the better of Fabregas in the middle of the pitch as he weaves his way towards the Chelsea penalty area. He then tries to play a quick one-two with Suarez, but Kante is there to beat the Uruguayan to the ball.
56′ Iniesta receives a rousing round of applause from the home fans as he’s replaced by Paulinho.
54′ Azpilicueta is left in a pocket of space midway inside the Barcelona half of the pitch, allowing him to swing a looping cross into the box. He can’t quite pick out Alonso, though, as Roberto is there to get in front of the onrushing wing-back.
52′ Willian’s cross into the middle of the penalty area is a good one, but Barcelona do well to clear the danger. Kante sends a cross back int the box and towards Alonso, who pulls off an acrobatic overhead kick but can’t find the target with his audacious effort.
51′ Chelea continue pushing forward as they keep enjoying themselves inside the Barcelona half of the pitch, but Willian can’t find a way into the box and has to settle for a corner after being closed down well by Umtiti.
O. Giroud
Yellow Card
50′ Alonso goes down inside the penalty area, but nothing is given! The defender breaks through a sea of defenders and takes on Pique, resulting in the two tangling in front of goal. The referee waves away the Chelsea players’ pleas for a penalty and then shows a yellow card to Giroud, who is absolutely furious.
49′ What a tackle by Dembele! A lofted pass is fired up towards the edge of the Barcelona box, where it finds Hazard. The Belgian brings the ball down well and knocks it over to Giroud, who then tees up Alonso to shoot. The wing-back isn’t able to, however, as Dembele is there to dispossess him with a wonderful sliding tackle.
48′ Almost a costly mistake by Courtois! A poor attempted clearance can only find Suarez, who quickly breaks towards the box and shoots. His low strike is a good one, but Courtois sticks out a foot to deal with the effort on goal.
47′ Chelsea quickly push forward from the restart and win themselves a corner over on the right wing. It finds the head of Rudiger inside the box, but the centre-back can’t send an effort towards goal. Barcelona switch off slightly and allow Willian to get a shot away, though, and it’s well blocked by Umtiti before it can test Ter Stegen.
46′ We’re underway once again!
The two teams are making their way back out on to the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
It’s all going to plan for Barcelona, who, as things stand, are heading through to the quarter-finals. They enjoyed the perfect start when Messi fired them into an early lead with less than three minutes on the clock, and Dembele then doubled their advantage with his first ever Barcelona goal. Chelsea have done well when pushing forward but will need to do even better after the break if they’re to find a way back into this tie.
45′ Alonso hits the woodwork! The Spaniard steps up and curls a lovely strike towars goal, where it shaves the outside of the near post after beating Ter Stegen.
Yellow Card
45′ Willian isn’t convinced that the Barcelona wall is far enough back, and he receives a yellow card for arguing with the referee before the free-kick is taken.
44′ Chelsea move the ball around patiently before Giroud is set up just outside of the hosts’ penalty area, where he’s fouled from behind by Umtiti and wins his side a free-kick in a very dangerous position. Can they make it count?
42′ Giroud loses the ball on the halfway line and Barcelona counter-attack once again, but Iniesta’s pass up to the penalty area is overhit and can’t quite find the feet of Messi.
40′ Another attempted Chelsea attacking move is brought to an end and quickly results in a counter-attack for Barcelona. Suarez manages to get the better of Christensen after spinning past the defender, but he comes back from an offside position and the linesman’s flag is immediately raised.
38′ And now Kante goes close! The midfielder wins back possession deep inside the Barcelona half of the pitch and quickly muscles his way into the box. He then gets a shot away just as Fabregas tries to do so as well, and the Frenchman’s effort rolls well wide of the goal. He should have left it!
37′ Two big chances for Chelsea! Willian charges down the left flank and gets himself into a great position. He then cuts a pass back to Alonso, who quickly forces Ter Stegen into making a decent save. The German can only push the ball out to Giroud, whose follow-up strike is blocked by Umtiti.
36′ A wonderful pass from Messi penetrates the Chelsea penalty area and picks out Suarez, who spins and works the ball back to Messi. The Argentine can’t quite control the overhit pass but the ball is then sent to Iniesta, who breaks into the box and sends a slightly scuffed shot wide of the far post.
34′ A first-time volleyed cross is fired into the Barcelona box by Alonso and looks set to find Giroud in front of goal, but Umtiti is there to dart in front of the striker and beat him to the ball at the vital moment.
33′ Almost an opportunity for Pique! Rudiger catches Messi late and sends the Argentine crashing to the ground, resulting in a free-kick for Barcelona in a promising position. Messi steps up and curls a cross into the middle of the box, where the ball bounces just inches past the outstretched foot of Pique.
31′ Alonso darts down the left flank and cuts inside before poking the ball back to Fabregas. The midfielder then tries to pick out Moses on the opposite wing, but his pass is underhit and easily met by Alba.
29′ Messi’s corner is well met by Giroud and headed up to Willian. The Brazilian sprints towards the Barcelona box and tries to pick out Hazard, but he’s closed down by three players just as he’s about to do so and ends up being dispossessed.
28′ Barcelona push forward once again as they continue putting the Chelsea back five under plenty of pressure, but Dembele can’t quite get a shot away from the left-hand side of the box and has to settle for a corner instead.
26′ Chance for Suarez! Iniesta bursts into the left-hand side of the Chelsea penalty area and tees up Suarez with a clever flick. The Uruguayan then takes on Courtois at the near post, but this time the goalkeeper is able to stop the ball from flying through his legs.
24′ Fabregas is fouled from behind by Rakitic as he bursts forward, and he wins a free-kick for Chelsea in a decent position. It’s taken quickly and chipped up to Moses, who tries to reach the ball inside the box but fouls Alba in the process.
Sergi Roberto
Yellow Card
22′ Hazard breaks forward as he tries to carve out a chance on goal for Chelsea, but he’s cynically dragged from behind by Roberto and the Barcelona full-back is shown a yellow card.
L. Messi
20′ That was wonderful play by Messi, who left Christensen and Azpilicueta for dead as he weaved towards the box, but once again Chelsea were made to pay for sloppy play when in possession.
O. Dembélé
20′ GOAL! It’s a second for Barcelona! Fabregas loses the ball on the halfway line, allowing Messi to fly forward on a blisteringly quick counter-attack. He skips past both Christensen and Azpilicueta before teeing up Dembele, who then blasts an excellent strike straight into the roof of the net.
18′ Short, quick passing from Barcelona looks as if it’s going to result in a chance on goal for the hosts, but Messi ends up losing the ball and Chelsea quickly counter-attack. They can’t do much with the move, though, as Moses is closed down well out wide and has to work the ball all the way back to the halfway line.
16′ A lofted pass is fired into the Chelsea half of the pitch and finds Suarez, who is immediately pushed to the ground by Christensen and wins a free-kick for the hosts. The set-piece is sent short and worked over to Rakitic, who bursts forward but is well dealt with by Kante.
14′ Chelsea have responded really well to going behind, and they’re constantly attacking with real intent. Once again, Hazard causes problems as he sprints forward and finds Willian, who shoots from 20 yards out and forces Ter Stegen into making a decent diving save.
12′ Giroud goes close! Hazard does well to keep the danger alive after the free-kick, and he quickly spins and finds Rudiger. The defender then cushions the ball for Giroud, who sends a first-time shot just wide of the far post before Rudiger is eventually flagged offside.
11′ Moses tangles with Umtiti as he darts down the right wing, and he wins Chelsea a free-kick in a promising position 30 yards away from goal. Fabregas steps up and pokes the ball to Willian, who crosses but can’t quite find a team-mate in front of goal.
10′ Dembele and Suarez link up well deep down the right wing, but the latter can’t quite find a way past Alonso and the ball is deflected behind by the defender. It looks as if Barcelona have won themselves a first corner of the game, but the linesman instead awards a goal-kick to Chelsea, much to Suarez’s annoyance.
8′ Hazard dances his way through a sea of Barcelona players before playing a clever pass out to Moses. The wing-back quickly fires a low cross into the middle of the penalty area, where Umtiti does well to reach the ball ahead of the onrushing Giroud.
6′ Willian’s cross in from the corner is another decent one and causes a few problems for the home side, but Suarez is there to head the ball away from danger at the near post before Alba blasts it out for a throw-in.
5′ Alonso breaks down the left wing from the restart and wins Chelsea a free-kick in a promising position after being pushed to the ground by Dembele. Willian’s cross into the box is a good one, but it deflects into the side-netting and behind for a corner.
L. Suárez
3′ That was a nice flick from Suarez during the build-up, but Chelsea really should have done much better there. They were caught out far too easily defensively, and Courtois let Messi’s shot rolls straight through his legs at the near post.
L. Messi
3′ GOAL! What a start for Barcelona! Messi breaks into the Chelsea box and tries to play a quick one-two with Dembele. The ball deflects off Alonso and falls to Suarez, who finds Messi once again and sets up the Argentine to fire the home side into an early lead.
1′ We’re off! Barcelona get us underway, attacking from left to right.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has also made one alteration to the team that featured three weeks ago, with Pedro making way for Giroud.
Ernesto Valverde has decided to make just one change to the Barcelona side that started the first leg, with Dembele coming into the starting line-up to replace Paulinho.
Chelsea substitutes: Willy Caballero, Emerson, Gary Cahill, Davide Zappacosta, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Pedro, Alvaro Morata.
Chelsea XI (3-4-2-1): Thibaut Courtois; Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger; Victor Moses, Cesc Fabregas, N’Golo Kante, Marcos Alonso; Willian, Eden Hazard; Olivier Giroud.
Barcelona substitutes: Jasper Cillessen, Lucas Digne, Thomas Vermaelen, Andre Gomes, Aleix Vidal, Paulinho, Paco Alcacer.
Barcelona XI (4-4-2): Marc-Andre ter Stegen; Sergi Roberto, Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti, Jordi Alba; Ousmane Dembele, Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic, Andres Iniesta; Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez.
There’s just under 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this evening…
Willian impressed once again in the victory against Palace, and the Brazilian could end up being his side’s standout performer this evening. They definitely could do with him putting in a similarly good performance tonight, particularly when Messi is in such good form as well. The Argentine has scored five goals in four appearances and is raring to go today.
With the Catalan side performing so well at home, Chelsea certainly will have to be at their best this evening if they’re to reach the quarter-finals. They managed to return to winning ways against Crystal Palace on the weekend but have lost twice since the first leg, with both Manchester clubs managing to get the better of a side that, as things stand, are in danger of failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Barcelona largely struggled to break down a defensively compact Chelsea side three weeks ago and will be hoping to take advantage of what should be a more open game this evening. Not only are they unbeaten in their last 14 clashes across all competitions but they haven’t suffered a home defeat since August’s Super Cup, while on only two occasions in their last five games have they conceded a goal.
It looked as if Chelsea were going to head to Catalonia in pole position when Willian put them a goal up in the first leg, but Barcelona fought back and start the night as favourites to progress thanks to a vital away goal. Lionel Messi’s strike has put the Blaugrana in a promising position, but the close nature of the meeting at Stamford Bridge means this tie remains firmly in the balance.
Good evening and welcome to our live coverage of today’s Champions League last-16 second leg between Barcelona and Chelsea at Camp Nou.
