Olubadan-in-Council threatens Olubadan with dethronement threat

The crisis between Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji and members of Olubadan-In-Council took another dimension on Monday as the High Chiefs have issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Olubadan to retrace his steps or be remove from the office.

The crisis had erupted as a result of the controversial elevation of 8 High Chiefs and Baales to the status of Obas by Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State‎.

The members of the Council who asked to be called as Obas in Council while issuing the detronment notice to the Olubadan accused the monarch of acts unbecoming of his office as the paramount ruler of the ancient town.

The High Chiefs, led by the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Lekan Balogun while addressing a press conference in Ibadan detailed all the ‘sins’ of Olubadan and gave him 21 days to retrace his steps or be removed from office.

Balogun who spoke on behalf of his colleagues alleged that the monarch was taking actions on behalf of the council without their inputs or approval.

He accused the Olubadan of inciting people against the state government, which, according to them, was not representative of the relationship between the council and the government.
